Truecaller, one of the world's most popular caller identification platforms, is facing increasing pressure as growth in its largest market, India, slows and competition intensifies across telecom networks and smartphone platforms. The company has introduced features such as AI Assistant and Family Protection to drive monetization, while tools like Community Suggestions are being used to stay relevant. However, data from Sensor Tower shows downloads from India fell 16% year-over-year in 2025, while global downloads declined 5%. This comes as telecom-led solutions like Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), dedicated number series for verified business calls, and AI-based spam protection gain traction in India. Meanwhile, smartphone makers including Apple and Google continue to build caller identification and spam-blocking capabilities into their operating systems. Despite this, Truecaller's shares have fallen about 78% since its 2021 IPO and are down around 37% so far this year.
