The settlement was reached after three years of litigation involving The Gray Lady in Tuscaloosa, following the death of University of Alabama student Garrett Walker in 2021. The resolution includes a written apology to Walker's family and a series of reforms aimed at preventing similar incidents. The bar will require annual staff training on responsible alcohol service, implement Responsible Vendor Certification for all employees, prohibit employees from consuming alcohol while on duty, participate in Alabama ABC Board minor operative programs, and launch an underage drinking awareness campaign within the venue. The case against Delta Chi National Fraternity remains ongoing.
