What’s Going Around in Metro Detroit: Norovirus, stomach viruses, colds, RSV, spring allergies

The health and safety section of Metro Detroit has highlighted what illnesses are causing concern in the city, including norovirus, stomach viruses, colds, RSV, spring allergies, and respiratory illnesses. Local doctors and hospitals have reported a decrease in respiratory illnesses, although still seeing cases of influenza and RSV. They also noted higher-than-normal viral gastroenteritis cases with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Dr. Whitney Minnock from Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak is seeing a resurgence of GI related illness with influenza and other viral upper respiratory illnesses and a significant influx of upper respiratory symptoms. Despite this, there is a significant demand for diagnostic clarity and rapid tests to rule out more serious viral infections. The most recent Influenza-related deaths in Washaw County have been reported this flu season were reported by individuals with Influenza A H3.
