Garci Peterkin, the first Black-owned business in Philadelphia's Chinatown, opened Carter’s Cheesesteaks by Garci in November 2025. The shop has attracted customers from across the region, including Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. Peterkin credits the support for his business, stating that it marks the first time he has witnessed such a strong show of unity and community support. He purchased the property using a combination of personal investment and self-funding, establishing full ownership. Since its opening, celebrities, food reviewers, and influencers have visited Peterkin's doors.
