The Washington Nationals, a team that was once so bad that the city of D.C. lost its team twice, the Washington Senators. The team was founded in 1901 and was part of the American League, aiming to challenge the National League. However, fortunes changed in 1924, when they won the 1924 World Series and repeated their Pennant winners the following year, beating the Yankees by a significant margin. Despite this success, the Senators were cash-strapped and owner Clark Griffith dumped every dime he could save to keep them afloat. Despite efforts by Major League Baseball and the Baltimore Orioles, they blocked efforts to bring a new team in. The current Washington Nationals team is known as the 1901-191919 as their ancestors.
