Vintage Redbird subway train rolled out for Mets’ home opener

The New York Transit Museum's vintage fleet of eight-car subway train, part of the vintage fleet, transported hundreds of Mets fans to the team's home opener in honor of the Metropolitans' first game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The iconic Redbird, a paint scheme that began as an anti-graffiti effort in 1984, was used to draw attention to transit cops and alert potential taggers. The last Redbird in official passenger service was retired in 2003. The museum's Nostalgia Rides also included two vintage subways for the Bronx Bombers' home opener at Yankee Stadium.
