Researchers from ETH Zurich have discovered that the components of Earth, which are almost entirely identical to those found in the inner or outer Solar System, originated from different types of meteorites. The discovery was made through analysis of variations in isotopes from meteorites, which were found to be caused by Jupiter's formation. The study has revolutionized our understanding of the provenance of planetary materials and the evolution of the early Solar System. Most of Earth was made from material from material that originated from the inner Solar System and took the form of a planet 4.6 billion years ago. However, if there was any carbon incorporated into the planet, it is thought that most of Earth’s water was brought from impactors from the outer solar System.
