Three Nebraska state officials, Lt. Gov. Joe Kelly, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg and Secretary of State Bob Evnen, have rejected proposed 40% salary increases for their respective offices in AM 2640 to LB 1210. The move comes as state lawmakers are working towards securing a balanced budget for the 2025-27 biennium by a March 25 deadline. The Appropriations Committee has proposed about $500 million in cuts, with about $140 million remaining to be found. Additionally, there are proposed $130 million from the state's rainy day fund and numerous other cuts.
