A new poll by the Pioneer Institute has found that Massachusetts residents view the state Legislature in a negative light and are concerned about the transparency of the state government. Only 28% of respondents said they view the Legislature favorably, with 51% who view it unfavorably. The poll, commissioned by the think tank, also found that 87% believe in government transparency. Massachusetts is known for being one of the least transparent states in the country when it comes to public records accessibility. The state Senate has asked the Supreme Judicial Court for an opinion on the proposed public records question, arguing that it could infringe on their freedom of deliberation, speech and debate. The survey also revealed that 67% believe that the financial information of officials should be available online without a photo ID requirement.
