Consumer experts: German petrol hikes rule won't bring down prices

A new rule that prohibits Germany's petrol stations from increasing prices more than once day has been criticised by consumer experts as unlikely to significantly reduce costs for motorists. The Federation of German Consumer Organizations (FFP) head, Ramona Pop, stated that the average price for a litre of diesel fuel rose to an all-time high of €2,327 as the rule took effect. The German government passed a bill last week to limit petrol stations to raising prices once a day to limit price fluctuations and ensure greater transparency. However, price reductions will still be allowed at any time. The ADAC motoring organization criticised the price rises as unreasonable given the recent fall in the oil price.
