Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has unveiled a draft legislative framework for AI legislation, The Republic Unifying Meritocratic Performance Advancing Machine Intelligence by Eliminating Regulatory Interstate Chaos Across American Industry (The TRUMP AMERICA AI Act), which aims to address hot issues such as the use of copyrighted works in training models and the prevalence of unauthorized deepfakes of celebrities. The proposal includes sunsetting Section 230, a 1996 law that allows platforms to avoid liability for third party content. Blackburn's proposals also include safeguards for minors and provisions designed to prevent discrimination based on political affiliation. The legislation, named as the No Fakes Act, also includes the Kids Online Safety Act and the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource. The bill has supporters in the industry including SAG-AFTRA, studios, record labels, and tech companies like Google and OpenAI.
