Man sentenced for 2020 shooting during Provo protest

Jesse Keller Taggart has been sentenced to up to life in prison for shooting and injuring another individual during a 2020 protest in Provo, Utah. The incident occurred during the demonstration where protestors were blocking traffic and attempting to stop a vehicle from proceeding through an intersection that was blocked by protestors. Following this incident, Toggart reportedly chased the vehicle and then punched the driver's side window of the vehicle. He was charged with attempted aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault, and riot. The judge stated that his actions caused immense fear and distress among the victims and sentenced him to the maximum sentence.
