Seattle council panel backs resolution for NBA return bid at Climate Pledge Arena

Seattle is preparing for the return of the NBA, following the league's decision to authorize formal expansion talks with prospective ownership groups in Seattle and Las Vegas. A resolution was introduced by Councilmember Rob Saka to declare Climate Pledge Arena prepared to host a team. This move is seen as the strongest indication yet that professional basketball could return to the Pacific Northwest as soon as the 2028-29 season. While the NBA controls expansion, Seattle intends to influence its chances. Deputy Mayor Brian Surratt highlighted the success of Climate PledgeArena, a public-private partnership that included about $1 billion in private investment with no public capital. Interest from ownership groups is also taking shape, with One Roof Sports and Entertainment being the only publicly known group interested.
