Punch the baby orangutan monkey, who was abandoned by his mother and other monkeys, is becoming more independent and less dependent on his plushie. The toy, which comforted him during his rejection, has been seen climbing on the back of another monkey and being groomed or hugged by adults. The popularity of the toy and its owner, Kosuke Kano, led to strict rules on visitors' behavior and restrictions on viewing. The zoo hopes that Punch will grow independent and join other monkeys in future generations of monkeys.
