Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke, the top prosecutor in Cook County, declined to criticize the Trump administration in the weeks leading up to Operation Midway Blitz due to her "excellent working relationships" with federal law enforcement, according to court records. The coalition of elected officials and community members has argued that O'Neil Burke has a conflict of interest that justifies the installation of a special prosecutor who could investigate the federal agents behind the deportation campaign. However, O'Ne Burke's office has denied this, stating that she is horrified by the thuggish and inappropriate conduct of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Chicago and elsewhere. The fight over a special attorney could come to a head soon as a Cook County Circuit Judge Erica Reddick is set to hear arguments.
