Letters for July 17: Political theater risks Air Force officer’s career
Published on July 16, 2026.
U.S. Air Force Maj. Jason Watson, who called for the president and vice president to be impeached, convicted and removed from office during a news conference on Capitol steps, violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice. His actions could result in Watson's dismissal from the service and potentially losing his security clearance, a year in prison, and potentially forfeiting pay. U.S Rep. Al Green, who escorted Watson to the Capitol grounds, likely knew Watson was violating the Uniform code of MilitaryJustice and left him there unaccompanied, knowing he would be arrested by the Capitol Police. Meanwhile, Clear Path Action, a Republican-affiliated Super-PAC, is sponsoring television spots highlighting U. S. Rep. Jen Kiggans, who supported the GOP reconciliation bill that cost an estimated 260,000 Virginians their health insurance and cut SNAP benefits from 6,000 constituents in her district, is accused of putting party over people.
