U.S. President Donald Trump has urged other countries to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that the key shipping route benefits them more than the United States. He suggested that countries such as China, who rely heavily on oil shipments passing through the Strait, should contribute to securing it. The comments were made during a meeting with reporters aboard Air Force One. Edward Fishman, director at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the Trump administration did not consult allies in Europe or Asia before launching military action against Iran, raising questions about whether they expect concessions in return for assistance. No plans have been announced for warships to be deployed to the strait, despite several ships being damaged since the U.S., Israel, France, and the UK discussing allowing commercial shipping to resume.
