Taylor Swift and Trump Loom Over Live Nation as Antitrust Trial Kicks Off

The Justice Department and 40 state attorneys general are starting their antitrust trial against Live Nation, the company that owns Ticketmaster. The lawsuit accuses Live Nation of using its position as the nation's largest concert promoter, ticket seller, and venue owner to undermine competition. The company had previously unsuccessfully tried to dismiss the suit, which was filed under the Biden administration. However, there is speculation that a settlement could occur under President Donald Trump. Opening arguments were held amid concerns that a last-minute deal could be made. The DOJ alleges Live Nation has a monopoly on the primary concert ticketing market and has also blocked competition by buying related companies in the market and securing venues into multi-year exclusive contracts.
