Erie County Sheriff John Garcia was grilled by lawmakers over his new assigned vehicle policy, which allows most deputies to use their vehicles for personal business within county limits. Critics questioned the policy, arguing that it's fiscally responsible to use these vehicles and is a political attack on Garcia. One legislator also raised concerns about a portion of the policy that compensates deputies who perform approved law enforcement services while off-duty. The Sheriff's Office is currently undergoing a process to overhaul policy and procedure, expected to continue over the next 18 months.
