The case will continue to be replayed for further litigation, with Katie's claims accusing Katy of infringing her brand’s trademarks by selling official merch in Australia. The dispute began in 2008 when Katie launched her brand and registered an Australian trademark for the name “Katie Perry” but was initially victorious in a 2023 court ruling in 2023, but a mid-level Australian appeals court in 2024 granted Katy's counter-request to cancel Katie's trademark.
