The South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago has responded to a report of 30 unneutered cats being found in a Cook County Forest Preserve in late March. The shelter, which serves 11 municipalities and all of Cook County, spent hours examining, vaccinating, microchipping, distributing medication and even performing surgery on the cats. All the cats survived and were up for adoption or foster care within weeks. The forest preserve is a popular dumping ground for pets due to its lack of cameras or witnesses. The society's director, Jordan Chapman, said that large groups of abandoned animals are not uncommon for the shelter. He encouraged people to call, email or text the shelter to schedule appointments and the shelter can better prepare.
