Mexico's tech exports have surpassed the automotive sector, with a surge that knocked new automobiles into the top spot for the first time. The country is exporting record quantities of computer equipment and other electronics, largely due to the U.S. decision to decrease tech imports from China. Chihuahua and Jalisco are leading the tech export boom, accounting for 46% of all computer equipment exports and 23% of total Mexican tech exports respectively. The strength of Mexico's export figures for electronics is due to computer equipment not being subject to any rules-of-origin restrictions, which allows many products to fall within the criteria of the USMCA free trade agreement. The average tariff on Mexican electronics remained at 0.45% throughout 2025, compared to the average tariff of 10.53% on the import of similar products from China, according to deputy director of economic studies at Banamex Rodolfo Ostolaza.
