'Vanlords' Are Taking Over California As More And More Residents Live In RVs

The cost of living in California has increased sharply in recent years, with many residents abandoning brick-and-mortar homes and instead living in RVs, also known as recreational vehicles. These RVs are often illegally parked in dangerous, high-traffic areas and often charging outrageous prices. However, these RVs' owners, dubbed "Vanlords" in some circles, often charge outrageous prices and are often charging outside of designated RV parks. Living in an RV can be dangerous for numerous reasons, but many continue to risk it in order to stay in California. Other U.S. states, such as Hawaii, Indiana, Delaware, and Michigan, have outright banned living in RVs. Despite these restrictions, some individuals are reportedly living in one of the state's registered RV parks, which often restrict length of stay.
