Detroit air quality ranks among worst in U.S.

The American Lung Association has reported that Detroit's air quality is among the worst in the country, with nearly half of Americans living with unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution. The Detroit-Warren-Ann Arbor metro area ranked No. 9 for the worst annual particle pollution, followed by No. 11 for 24-hour particle pollution in the region. Wayne County was given an F for ozone pollution, with an average of 6.8 unhealthy days. The association's president and CEO, Harold Wimmer, has called for stronger air pollution standards.
