A United States Postal Service worker was trapped under her mail truck after a rear-end collision in Medway, Massachusetts. The accident occurred when a red pickup truck hit the back of the vehicle, sending it off the road and onto a nearby lawn. The worker was pinned under the vehicle and was conscious and talking to bystanders shortly after. The incident was witnessed by a nurse who kept calm and prevented further harm. Firefighters used specialized airbags to free the trapped worker, who was transported by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment. The soft mulch bed of the lawn was cited as the key reason the worker survived, as it absorbs impact differently than pavement or concrete. No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation.
