Google's DeepMind, meanwhile, treats nature as irrelevant and as a resource or threat. Anthropocentric thinking has led to the biodiversity crisis, with examples such as the 19th century buffalo hides trade in North America or the cotton irrigation that transformed the Aral Sea into a toxic desert. The author suggests that AI companies should consider biodiversity loss as a priority risk, alongside risks associated with loss of human control, authoritarian abuses, and job displacement.Governments around the world should require AI companies to align with the Global Biodiversity Framework.
