Jamel Davis, a rising Brooklyn rapper, was shot to death by his 16-year-old stepson in a dispute over smoking in their NYCHA apartment. Davis was expecting a child with the suspect's mother and didn't want the baby exposed to second-hand smoke. The suspect, who allegedly denied smoking, ran away after the shooting and has not been caught. Davis, who performed under the name Sinthoro Upper and had been with his girlfriend for eight years, was a mentor to local teens and his new song "Slidin" had been well-received and was soundtracked by 50 Cent. The victim's brother, Geo Miller, expressed concern over his brother's murder.
