Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return

Anthropic has announced that Amazon has agreed to invest $5 billion in its investment in the company, bringing its total to $13 billion. In exchange, Anthropic will spend over $100 billion on Amazon's cloud computing system, providing up to 5GW of new computing capacity to train and run Claude. The deal involves Amazon's custom chips: Graviton (a low-power CPU), and Trainium (an Nvidia competitor), and also allows the company to buy capacity on future Amazon chips.
