‘V for Vendetta’ at 20: Director James McTeigue Isn’t Surprised the Film Feels Like It Was Made Yesterday

Director James McTeigue is surprised by the relevance of his feature directorial debut, V for Vendetta, which was released 20 years ago. The film is based on Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s graphic novel, which also inspired Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman) and the Guy Fawkes-masked vigilante known as V (Hugo Weaving) to dismantle the totalitarian police state in a near-future United Kingdom. McTeague credits the film's historical echoes to the Bush-Cheney administration and its continuing political cycles. Despite never receiving Moore's approval, McTeigle believes the film is timeless in a way.
