Crypt networks closely linked to Iran's central bank and its largest crypto exchange, Nobitex, have moved at least $2.3 billion through these networks since the start of 2023, according to blockchain data. Private data from Arkham revealed that NobiteX processed over $2 billion on the Tron blockchain since January 1, 2023. The data also revealed that during the U.S. war against Iran, some flows continued. Among the users were the Central Bank of Iran, which was sanctioned by the US in 2019 for allegedly providing billions of dollars to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Lebanon's Hezbollah. A separate Reuters investigation found that the Iranian exchange is secretly controlled by the sons of one of Iran’s most powerful families.
