The Minnesota House passed a bill allowing state agencies to withhold money from government contractors who face fraud allegations. This bill was debated by both Republicans and Democrats, with one amendment calling for the firing of each agency whose intentional or negligent act allowed fraud to occur. The original bill by Rep. Ginny Klevorn, DFL-Plymouth, allows state agency heads to stop payments to fishy contractors, be they health care providers, IT vendors, after-school programs, or any entity receiving state dollars. However, GOP floor leader Harry Niska's amendment, which failed on a strict party line vote, argued that these agencies were there to provide good things to the people of Minnesota. He also suggested that the government itself was being targeted for its own sake. The article also discusses the increasing rise in prescription drug prices in Minnesota, with the average drug price rising 58% from 2020 to 2025.
