Kristen Clarke, former assistant attorney general for civil rights under President Joe Biden, is joining the National Association for the Advancement of Color People (NAACP) as general counsel. Her move comes as the Justice Department under President Donald Trump intensifies its efforts to erode democratic institutions and enforce civil rights protections. Clarke was previously the top civil rights lawyer at the Department of Justice, leading the Civil Rights Division. She started her career at the Justice Dept. and worked on several cases defending the Voting Rights Act.
