Melissa Melton, a former correctional officer, witnessed a school shooting in Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma, April 7, when she saw a man in a hoodie with a gun in the school's front lobby. The man, identified as Victor Hawkins, 20-year-old former student of the school, entered the school with two loaded semiautomatic pistols and aimed to kill students, faculty, and then himself. Hawkins initially aimed at a female student, but the gun misfired and Hawkins then pointed at Melton’s nephew, who put his hands up and asked him not to shoot. The principal, Kirk Moore, managed to wrest the gun from Hawkins' hand and hold him down. Despite the panic, Moore was able to prevent any harm to the students and teachers. The incident occurred in a quiet community, an hour south of Oklahoma City.
