YouTube is expanding its likeness detection tool to political and civic leaders, as well as journalists, in an effort to combat AI-generated content that may misinform or mislead users of the platform. The tool will allow political figures to review videos that feature their likeness and request removal if it violates YouTube's privacy policies. The company first introduced the tool in December 2024, initially offering it to A-list actors and athletes, and now it has been expanded to 4 million creators in the YouTube Partner Program. The expansion is aimed at preserving the integrity of the public conversation and ensuring the principles of free expression are applied.
