A study by the journal Science has revealed that male octopuses can locate and mate with females without ever seeing them, a process known as "taste by touch." This involves a specialized arm used to transfer sperm, which also detects chemical signals from females. The study found that male Octopuses' desire to mate with wherever the female indicated, even after it was severed, was so intense that it kept reaching for the chemical even after its removal. The researchers believe this evolutionary advantage lies in the solitary nature of the octopus and aversion to encounters with other creatures.
