Major road construction projects are set to begin across Minnesota in 2026, with a budget of $1.5 billion. Major projects include a $200 million project to convert four at-grade interchanges into a freeway in Blaine, Wayzata and St. Paul. The I-35W project in Burnsville will wrap up this fall after more lane reductions and a Cliff Road detour. Several major projects are entering their final year, including the I-94/I-394 project between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100. The last summer of a four-year construction project on I-494 between the airport and Edina will end, but the bad news is that MnDOT has added a second phase that will run from 2027 to 2030.
