Iran has hit a tanker off the coast of Qatar and Kuwait International Airport, killing five people in Beirut. Israel also launched its own attacks in Lebanon, killing at least five people. Despite efforts to end the war, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested it could be over within two weeks, while he moved to bring thousands more troops to the region. Iran's control on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks on regional energy infrastructure have caused gas prices to reach their highest level since 2022 and caused broad stock market fluctuations. The United States has presented Iran with a 15-point plan aimed at bringing about a ceasefire, which includes a demand for the strait to be reopened. Despite Iran's claim to retain control over the straits, the U.K. has warned that if a ceasefire is not reached, the United States will broaden its offensive, including attacking the Kharg Island oil export hub and desalination plants.
