Chicago-based Verano, one of the largest publicly traded cannabis companies in the country, started as a side hustle when Illinois legalized medical marijuana in 2013. Restaurateur George Archos, who owns seven Chicago-area restaurants, has since turned Verano from a seedling to a vertically integrated company that ranks third in retail sales nationally. Despite facing challenges in the industry, Archos remains optimistic about the future of the cannabis industry. Verano's business has been losing some financial ground in recent years, generating $879 million in revenue, down from more than 9 million in the previous year. The company's full-year earnings are expected to be completed in 2025.
