The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon, has used donated clothing to protect its donkeys from insect bites. About 40 of the sanctuary's 40 donkeys have been wearing don-gerees and other unwanted clothing in an effort to reduce irritation from insect bite. The items are loose-fitting and cut to fit individual donkeys, which can get through several pairs a week. Lisa Coles from the sanctuary said the clothes help "flap the flies away and the donkey's don't mind it". The sanctuary has appealed for any unwanted loose-fitted trousers, leggings, pyjamas, or maternity trousers, in women's size 16 up, and men's size large and up.
