Three-Judge Panel Rejects Lawsuit to Redo State’s Congressional Maps

A three-judge panel has dismissed a lawsuit by Democratic voters seeking to redraw Wisconsin's congressional maps. The lawsuit, Bothfield v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, argues that the state’s congressional maps are an illegal partisan gerrymander. This dismissal marks another failure by Democrats and their allies in redrawing the current congressional maps, which have since been favoring Republican candidates since 2011. The current legislative maps were introduced in 2022 by the state Supreme Court after the Republican-controlled Legislature and Gov. Tony Evers were unable to agree on passing new maps themselves. The other pending lawsuit is expected to go to trial in 2027.
