Global Entry Program Restarted as Delays Mount Amid DHS Shutdown

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has restarted the Global Entry program, which allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to go through an expedited clearance process when arriving in the U.S. More than two weeks after the program was halted due to the ongoing government shutdown, DHS has resumed the service. This comes as Congress continues to negotiate a funding bill for DHS, which has been frozen since Feb. 14 due to a disagreement over immigration enforcement demands. The current shutdown has not led to significant disruptions to air travel, compared to last year's. However, the partial shutdown is leading to staffing shortages among TSA agents at some airports, which can lead to long security lines.
