The US has increased its estimate for the Golden Dome missile defense shield to $185 billion. The money will be allocated to three programs, including the Advanced Missile Tracking Initiative, a space data network, and the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor. Space Force General Michael Guetlein identified these programs as the highest-risk elements of the program. He dismissed outside estimates that put the cost above $1 trillion, arguing that these systems are based on applying expensive battlefield systems to a homeland defense mission that requires a different approach. The consortium includes Lockheed Martin, RTX and Northrop Grumman as prime partners.
