The cult-classic television show, Friends, almost didn't make it to air due to a controversial scene in the pilot episode, where Monica's date with "Paul the Wine Guy" (John Allen Nelson), was controversial due to its unrealistic storyline. The show's co-creator, David Crane, argued that the character's experiences were relatable and make her more sympathetic. However, one NBC executive, who was in charge, disagreed and kept the scene in order to prove that the audience wouldn't like Monica if she slept with a guy on the first date, stating that it was skewed. Despite this controversy, the show ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
