Morris argued that boys need to "toughen up" when they are exposed to simplistic gender stereotypes like "only girls can like pink" and "girls can't like Spider-Man". She also admitted that she paints her six-year-old son's nails and makes friendship bracelets with him. However, critics argue that the issue is whether boys and girls should be developed in the same way. They argue that children seeing gendered toys and colors in black and white can have a detrimental impact on their impressionable minds.
