The Transit Museum's Nostalgia Rides are offering a vintage subway train, the Redbird, to take Mets fanatics to the team's home opener at Citi Field as part of a special promotion for the long-suffering fanbase. The eight-car Redbird will arrive at the stadium from the 34th Street-Hudson Yards station at 11 a.m. on Thursday, making several stops along the 7 line before pulling into Mets-Willets Point, where the Mets will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The promotion is part of the Transit Museum’s Nostalgia Ride, which was introduced by the MTA in 1959 and was repainted to its iconic red color in 1984. The discount can be used for a day pass or CityTicket to the game, or a four-car 1917 Lo-V train, from the uptown 4 train platform at 42 St-Grand Central to 161 St-Yankee Stadium. The LIRR will also offer a $5 discount on train tickets for any game this season for any ticket holder who uses the discount in the TrainTime section called “Take the Train to the Game” under a new “PromPromPromo” code.
