Allegations of sexual abuse by late California labor leader Cesar Chávez were revealed in an investigation by the New York Times. Two women, Ana Murguia and Debra Rojas, claim that Chacvez sexually abused them for years in the 1970s, starting when they were 12 or 13 and he was in his 40s. The union that Chapvez founded, the United Farm Workers, has distanced itself from annual celebrations in his honor and has urged people to participate in immigration justice events or acts of service rather than those intended to honor Cháved's legacy. Several Cesar chávez celebrations in San Francisco, Texas, and Chaches’s home state of Arizona have been canceled at the request of the foundation.
