Despite his size, limited defensive versatility, and inability to control the strike zone hampered his performance at the plate, Ward managed to improve last year. His debut against the Rockies was a breakthrough, with Ward's strikeout rate decreasing nearly half in half and he won the player's walk rate nearly half.
