In a major legal error, the lawyers for accused murderer Matthew Farwell, who is facing life imprisonment if convicted of murdering Sandra Birchmore, falsely accused his brother, William, of being the father of the victim's unborn child. The lawyers argued that DNA analysis confirmed Farwell was not responsible for the unborn child and that Farwell remained in Massachusetts after Birchmore's death, despite other men having ongoing affairs with Birchmore. The amended filing does not name the biological father in either case. Matthew Farwe, also an ex-Stoughton police officer, has also been charged with causing the death of Birchmore’s unborn baby boy. The case was initially ruled a suicide by Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey's office and then a murder by the U.S. District Attorney for Massachusetts, Leah Foley.
