TSA staffing shortage occurred over the weekend due to the partial government shutdown, causing hourslong wait times for travelers across the country. The Department of Homeland Security reported that there were over 111 incidents where shortages threatened "operational integrity" on Sunday, including a 55% callout rate at Houston Hobby International Airport. This is the highest since the department funding lapsed last month. At least 366 TSA agents, classified as essential workers, have lost their jobs in the last month and it can take four to six months to train new agents to meet passenger demand. Democratic lawmakers have delayed Republican efforts to pass a new bill to fund DHS due to concerns over its handling of immigration enforcement.
