Impersonation scams, like CoinDCX in India, can be low-tech yet effective, using fake websites that mimic trusted cryptocurrency platforms to deceive users. The fraudulent domain coindcx.pro, not the real platform, was used to mislead the victim and carry out the fraud. The scam involved a fraudulent website, which was linked to a crypto franchise-style model linked to the platform. However, the court's intervention shifted the blame away from the actual platform and identified the scam as a sophisticated digital facade operated by scammers. The case began from a complaint filed by a 42-year-old insurance consultant who claimed he had been defrauded of about 7.16 million rupees. The company's co-founders, Sumit Gupta and Neeraj Khandelwal, were taken into custody in Bengaluru. This incident is not an isolated incident, with more than 1,200 fake websites reported for use between April 20 and January 2026.
